Join our Market Design team to help shape the market as it adapts to face the challenges of the future.

With a background in economics, engineering or a related subject, you have a strong understanding of the current electricity market framework in Alberta and the changes that will be introduced with REM.

In this role, you will demonstrate and grow your expertise in economics, business, or engineering to shape the development of Alberta's electricity market. This will be achieved through conducting independent research on economic, technical and policy aspects of market design best practices in other jurisdictions, as well as providing guidance on market analysis activities.

You will identify and develop the details needed to put in place key components of Alberta's restructured electricity market, evaluating the economic efficiency, market impact, stakeholder effects, and operational implications of market design alternatives

Working closely with colleagues in the Market Design team and other AESO subject matter experts, this position is also responsible for supporting market monitoring and evaluation activities related to the sustainability and evolution of the energy and ancillary services markets.

Leveraging your strong communication and presentation skills, you will act as a primary lead on engagement with external stakeholders as part of market design consultations, and will also be accountable for developing and supporting regulatory applications to the Alberta Utilities Commission.

  • You embrace working collaboratively as part of a larger design focused team

  • You delight in working in a diverse atmosphere – your AESO colleagues have varied backgrounds, experiences and perspectives
