Northern Lights Public Schools invites applications for the following position:

S Educational Assistant/Librarian - Vera M Welsh Elementary School

We are seeking a full-time (1.0 fte) Educational Assistant / Librarian to commence as soon as possible and for the remainder of the school year. The assignment will involve managing the operation of the School Library under the supervision of School Administration, and assisting with student educational program needs including social skills, behaviour skills, self-help and personal care needs. The successful applicant will possess the ability to work with both students and staff members and be a compassionate and energetic individual.

Vera M. Welsh Elementary School is located in the Town of Lac La Biche with approximately 280 students in grades K-3. We are dedicated to educate and care for our school community and to encourage life-long learning.

Preference will be given to applicants who have:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in Athena, or related library system
  • Knowledge of collection management, cataloging and document delivery
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Post-Secondary training and/or experience as an Educational Assistant/Librarian
  • Knowledge and experience with behavioral strategies
  • Experience working one-on-one and/or in group settings
  • Knowledge of documentation procedures and proficiency with computers, current technology and internet research skills
  • Knowledge and experience in alternate communication strategies
  • Experience assisting students with self-help and personal care needs
  • Familiarity with strategies to address different learning styles and experience with Individual Program Plans
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision

Training and skills that would be an asset include:

  • Relative experience in educational assistance, nursing and/or rehabilitation
  • Relevant training or experience working as a Librarian
  • SIVA and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
