Here's how a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Supervisor for our Ottawa office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements and supports project HSE plans, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Implements corporate and district HSE communication strategies and initiatives on projects.
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification and assists in the development of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for high risk activity.
  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and subcontractor safety plans.
  • Monitors and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental plan.
  • Monitors and audits subcontractor HSE performance.
  • Participates in investigations and monitors implementation of corrective actions for effectiveness.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators and other employees.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project specific HSE training.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary certificate, bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Holds safety designation (ie. CSO, NCSO, GSC, CRSP, NEBOSH, etc.)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a health and safety role in a related industry. Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
