Katzie First Nation Affordable Housing Development Society – Pitt Meadows, BC

Position Type: Full time, Part time, Relief

Reports To: Senior Program Manager

Shifts: Days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Wage: $30 per hour

Position Summary

Katzie First Nation Affordable Housing Development Society (KFNAHDS) provides safe, supported, and culturally respectful housing for members of the Katzie community. The Housing Support Worker plays a key role across two integrated programs:

  • Youth Housing Program — a Fraser Health–licensed, 24/7 single-staffed supportive housing environment for youth requiring stability, structure, and wraparound support.
  • Independent Housing Program — providing on-site, 5-day-per-week supports to single adults and families to strengthen housing stability, self-sufficiency, and connection to community resources.

This role supports resident wellness through culturally safe practice, trauma-informed approaches, and strong community connections. Applicants do not need to be Indigenous, but must demonstrate cultural humility, openness to learning, and respect for working within an Indigenous-led organization and on Katzie First Nation territory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supporting Youth (Fraser Health–Licensed Program)

  • Provide on-site support within a Fraser Health–licensed youth housing environment, following all licensing standards, safety regulations, supervision requirements, and documentation practices.
  • Ensure the site remains compliant with Fraser Health expectations related to resident supervision, incident reporting, safety checks, and environmental standards.
  • Build respectful, trauma-informed, and trusting relationships with youth while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Coordinate and support the delivery of on-site programming, including cultural activities, land-based learning opportunities, life-skills development, and wellness-focused programming, in collaboration with the Senior Program Manager and community partners.
  • Support youth in developing essential daily living skills such as cleaning, budgeting, communication, organization, and self-care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely Fraser Health–required documentation, including daily logs, incident reports, safety records, and other licensing-related records.
  • Conduct regular safety checks, walkthroughs, and environmental monitoring as required under licensing standards.
  • Encourage and support youth participation in Katzie community activities, cultural teachings, and gatherings.

2. Supporting Residents - Independent Housing Program

  • Provide on-site, 5-day-per-week supports to residents living in the Independent Housing Program.
  • Assist residents in accessing services such as health care, mental health supports, education, employment programs, cultural activities, and other community resources.
  • Support tenants in understanding tenancy responsibilities, budgeting, and maintaining stable housing.
  • Assist families and individuals with goal setting, problem solving, and strengthening independence.

3. Cultural Safety & Katzie First Nation Approach

  • Work in a manner that reflects and respects Katzie First Nation values, community protocols, and relational ways of being.
  • Demonstrate cultural humility, openness, and willingness to learn from community members, Elders, and staff.
  • Support access to cultural teachings, traditional knowledge sharers, and community-led initiatives when appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality, compassion, and professionalism at all times.
  • Participate in cultural learning and orientation opportunities offered through Katzie First Nation.

4. Safety, Wellness & Facility Stewardship

  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of the building to ensure cleanliness, resident safety, and environmental compliance with licensing standards.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately in crisis situations according to KFNAHDS and Fraser Health policies.
  • Support cleaning routines and the maintenance of safe common spaces.
  • Report maintenance concerns or hazards promptly to the Senior Program Manager.
  • Follow all Occupational Health & Safety and WHMIS procedures

5. Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain regular communication with the Senior Program Manager regarding resident needs, safety concerns, and programming priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with Katzie First Nation departments, community partners, and external service providers.
  • Attend team meetings, supervision sessions, debriefings, and trainings.
  • Maintain accurate resident documentation, daily logs, and licensing-required records.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Experience supporting youth and/or families in housing, care, or community service settings.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and harm reduction approaches.
  • Ability to work independently in a 24/7 single-staffed environment.
  • Strong communication, judgment, and crisis-response skills.
  • Food Safe Level 1 (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).

Preferred

  • Experience working in an Indigenous community or Indigenous-led program.
  • Knowledge of Fraser Health licensing standards and documentation requirements.
  • Post-secondary training in Child & Youth Care, Community Support Work, Social Services, or related fields.
  • Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Mental Health First Aid, or related certifications.

Working Conditions

  • Work is between our Youth Housing (licensed facility) and the Independent Housing site.
  • Shift work includes evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Moderate physical activity including walking, light cleaning, and facility checks.
