As an Evidence Technician working in the Evidence & Property Team (EPT), you will be involved with highly sensitive and confidential information and are responsible for maintaining property seized or recovered by police officers. Your primary duties include:

  • Receive, store, and monitor continuity of property and exhibits both physically and on the Evidence Management Application Database.
  • Liaise and notify investigative units and/or sworn members in relation to the status of exhibits or property.
  • Release property and exhibits to sworn members and the public.
  • Respond to telephone, email, and in person inquiries from sworn members and the public.
  • Liaise with external agencies and the criminal courts.
  • Prepare exhibit/property for proper disposal (i.e., auctions, destructions, deposits).
  • Complete and verify information on legal forms.

Working Conditions: Exposure to hazardous material such as bodily fluids, mold, drugs substances, lead, needles, etc. is common, appropriate personal protective equipment is utilized. Regular exposure potentially disturbing images and text, victims personal effects, etc. Work Environment: warehouse and office environment, regularly dealing with difficult and or distraught customers.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • A minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a law enforcement or policing environment.
  • A minimum of 1 year warehousing experience including efficiently shelving and retrieving items, keeping accurate records.
  • You must be eligible to obtain a Possession and Acquisition License from the Canadian Firearms Centre for both non-restricted and restricted firearms.
  • Be able to preform physically demanding tasks consistently and efficiently over long periods without excessive fatigue. This includes lifting heavy items, bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds repeatedly throughout your shift.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Familiarity of systems including Sentry (Niche), Justice Online Information Network (JOIN), Offender Records & Correctional Administration (ORCA), and Alberta Motor Vehicles System (MOVES) is an asset.
  • Certification in Transporting Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), First Aid, Forklift operation and order picker experience are considered assets.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance is required.
  • A valid Full Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
