Position Overview

This role is foccused on evaluating the condition and performance of buildings through detailed site reviews, technical investigations, and structured reporting. The Building Consultant plays a key part in helping clients understand current deficiencies, long‑term repair needs, and overall asset health.

Key Responsibilities

Property Condition Assessments & Capital Planning

  • Conduct on‑site evaluations of buildings, reviewing relevant drawings, historical information, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare comprehensive written reports following site inspections.
  • Develop cost projections for recommended repairs and lifecycle planning.
  • Contribute to reserve fund studies, performance audits, pre‑construction documentation, and capital renewal strategies.

Technical Investigation, Coordination & Quality Assurance

  • Identify and assess issues such as compromised building components, material degradation, structural concerns, or building envelope failures.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and external partners involved in project work.
  • Assist in developing technical specifications and documentation based on field observations.
  • Participate in client meetings and relationship‑building activities when needed.
  • Provide dependable technical insight and practical recommendations.

Design Support & Drafting

  • Assist with the creation of repair details and design solutions.
  • Support the development of engineered drawings, project specifications, and detailed field‑based reporting.

Collaboration

Internal:

  • Clients and prospective clients
  • Contractors, vendors, and relevant third‑party consultants

Qualifications & Attributes

Technical Background

  • 3-5 years of experience in building assessments or related building system evaluations.
  • Familiarity with standards guiding building condition reviews and capital planning processes.
  • Engineering degree preferred; active pursuit of professional licensure is an asset.
  • Understanding of construction methods, building science principles, and applicable regulations.

Skills & Personal Qualities

  • Comfortable working at heights and outdoors in varying site conditions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to clarity and detail.
  • Effective teamwork and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Organized, self‑directed, and capable of managing multiple tasks.

  • Proficiency with office software and CAD tools.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle access.
