About the Role
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for low-voltage systems projects. This role requires regular site visits to support accurate take-offs, verify scope, and collaborate with project teams during pre-construction and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bidding
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for electrical and/or mechanical construction projects
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to define project scope and requirements
- Perform quantity take-offs and pricing for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Solicit, review, and analyze supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Identify project risks, constructability considerations, and value-engineering opportunities
Site Visits & Field Coordination
- Attend job sites during the estimating and pre-construction phases to verify site conditions
- Conduct site walks to confirm access, logistics, phasing, and constructability impacts
- Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and foremen to validate scope and assumptions
- Support site teams with cost clarification and scope verification during project handover
Project Coordination & Support
- Assist with bid submissions, clarifications, and post-tender negotiations
- Support budget development, cost tracking, and project setup following award
- Maintain organized documentation of estimates, assumptions, and historical pricing
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare estimate summaries, pricing breakdowns, and management reports
- Track bid results and analyze estimating accuracy for continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with company standards, safety requirements, and contractual obligations
Qualifications
- 2+ years of estimating experience in construction electrical
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and site conditions
- Strong background in installation, servicing, inspecting, and maintenance of LV devices such as panels, access control, intercoms, CCTV, networking, and cabling
- Experience with fire alarm systems considered an asset (e.g., Notifier, Simplex, Mircom, Edwards)
- Willingness and ability to attend job sites as required
- Certifications such as Red Seal 309A, CFAA, WHMIS are an asset
- Strong organizational and communication skills
