As the Traffic Engineering Technician 1, you will provide technical support and assistance under the direction of the supervisor in Traffic Management Centre. You will be responsible for the safe movement of all users of the transportation network. Primary duties include:

  • Perform data collection and analysis.
  • Research and identify problems.
  • Prepare signage and road marking plans for a variety of interesting internal and external projects, ranging from new subdivisions to new schools.
  • Respond to concerns of the general public, elected officials and other City staff received through 3-1-1, email and telephone.
  • Provide responses in writing (email or technical memorandum) or verbally.
  • Review and implement parking changes.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year Civil Engineering diploma and at least 1 year of traffic engineering technician experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Geographical Information System (GIS) software and basic proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook).
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending. Reliable access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
  • Experience using Work Order system and knowledge of traffic engineering will be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires excellent communication skills, strong customer focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with field crews and in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions: Exposure to various weather conditions, heavy traffic, and active construction sites.

Compensation: Pay Grade 8 $ per hour (2026 Rates)

Days of Work: These part time positions work 24/ 7 and can be scheduled any day of the week, including week ends and statutory holidays.

Hours of work: Part time is 17.5 hours per work week.
