Position Summary
Join HomeEquity Bank's growing Risk Management team and help shape the future of responsible lending in Canada's reverse mortgage market.

In this role, you will be a key driver in advancing the Bank's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program through data, analytics, and cross-functional collaboration, with a primary focus on Credit Risk. As part of the second line of defense, you'll provide independent challenge, analytical insights, and strategic guidance that empower informed decision-making across the organization.

Beyond traditional risk activities, this position offers exciting exposure to emerging disciplines such as climate and geolocation risk analysis, reflecting the Bank's forward-looking commitment to regulatory compliance, sustainability, and innovation. You'll collaborate closely with teams across Product, Data & Analytics, and Operations to translate data-driven insights into actionable risk strategies that strengthen our portfolio and protect our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Credit and Operational Risk Oversight – Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, control effectiveness testing, and monitoring activities across Credit, Mortgage Lending, and Operations.
  • Insightful Reporting & Data Visualization – Build and enhance data-driven risk dashboards using a combination of visualization tools, produce analytical insights for senior management and Board reporting.
  • Analytics Model Development and Validation – Perform risk-based credit model development and enhancement, validation of credit models and support analytic reviews leveraging SQL, Python, or data visualization tools.
  • Product/Project & Initiative Risk Reviews – Evaluate new products, projects, and initiatives against the Risk Appetite Framework to ensure strategic and regulatory alignment.
  • Advisory & Challenge – Review escalated credit cases, perform enhanced due diligence, and provide independent recommendations to senior leaders on risk suitability.
  • Continuous Improvement – Strengthen policies, procedures, and frameworks to embed best practices in credit and enterprise risk management.
  • Issue Management & Audit Support – Partner with business units to address audit or regulatory findings using data and analytics, ensuring timely and sustainable remediation
  • Promote Risk Culture – Foster awareness and understanding of credit, operational, and fraud risk across the Bank through collaboration, communication, and training.
  • Drive Enterprise Risk Excellence – Support the execution and continuous improvement of the Bank's ERM framework to ensure consistency, transparency, and alignment with risk appetite and business strategy.
  • Innovation in Risk Practices – Contribute to cross-functional projects such as expanding GRC platforms or integrating new data domains, including geolocation and climate risk analytics.

Qualifications
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of experience in Risk Management and/or Internal Audit, data and analytics, ideally within financial services, ideally mortgage lending.
  • Proven experience designing, executing, and communicating risk assessments, monitoring, and testing programs.
  • Strong knowledge of credit life-cycle management and industry best practices in enterprise and credit risk.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, with experience using data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Working knowledge of SQL or Python to support data-driven risk insights.
  • Exposure to climate or geolocation data analysis considered an asset.
  • Good-to-Have: Familiarity with OSFI regulatory frameworks (e.g., B-20, B-15, E-21, E-23) and practical experience applying them in a financial institution.
