We are seeking an experienced, professional and compassionate Out of School Care Manager to join our team. As a OSC Manager, you will play a vital role in our Program providing quality, inclusive child care services for young children in a group setting under the direction of the program Directors and Parent Board.
Job Description Duties and Responsibilities
Program Compliance & Communication
- Ensure programming adheres to all VIHA licensing standards, BC's Childcare and Community Care Act, and all organizational Policies and Procedures.
- Complete the Vancouver Island Health Authority Managers Training Course.
- Maintain open and consistent communication with Directors regarding child or parent incidents, program updates, staffing concerns, and other relevant matters.
Childcare Environment & Programming
- Provide a safe, stimulating, and engaging environment for children.
- Maintain healthy relationships with staff, children, parents, and community partners while ensuring adherence to Policies and Procedures.
- Keep accurate, up-to-date records for all children in designated programs.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities that support each child's well-being and reflect diverse needs within budget.
- Meet with parents/guardians to collaborate on supporting each child's development.
- Carry out responsibilities delegated by Directors; act as the point person for staff and parents when Directors are absent.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff; facilitate staff meetings, conduct evaluations, and implement disciplinary actions when required.
- Assist with staff hiring, onboarding, and scheduling.
- Model positive, professional behavior and support training of new staff.
- Report staffing changes and disciplinary issues to the Directors as needed.
- Stay informed via the Connect Teams staff portal.
Program Planning & Implementation
- Provide daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, individual/group activities.
- Plan and prepare programming for 4 afterschool care programs and soon to be 6, Pro-D Days, Spring Break, and Summer Camps.
- Work all Pro-D Days and seasonal camps.
- Create monthly OSC calendars.
- Ensure all planning/programming meets CVCC standards.
- Prepare activity planning sheets for staff and ensure all materials are organized.
- Maintain open communication with Directors regarding budgets.
- Attend daily check-ins with Directors and monthly staff meetings (in person or via Zoom).
- Organize and prepare physical environments, materials, and equipment for activities.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all program rooms.
- Support children's expression and learning through observation, modeling, questioning, demonstrating, and positive reinforcement.
- Organize and maintain first aid and earthquake kits.
- Review the message book and Esikidz app at the beginning and end of each shift to stay updated on communications.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents via phone, email, and in person regarding children's wellbeing, behaviors, and events.
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding information about children, families, and staff.
Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance
- Follow licensing and program procedures for health records, medication administration, and first aid.
- Report all incidents, injuries, and illnesses to Directors and complete the appropriate documentation (Minor Accident, Illness, and Unexpected Events forms).
- Monitor the facility for hazards and take preventative action.
- Update yourself daily on children's allergies, special conditions, and other relevant information.
- Serve as Health and Safety Officer when Directors are not on site.
- Report any incidents or allegations of child abuse according to program procedures, regional protocols, and governing legislation.
- Release children only to authorized individuals as outlined in Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain behavior expectations consistent with program guidelines.
- Provide positive guidance strategies such as redirecting, using positive language, and reinforcing positive behaviors.
- Address challenging behaviors immediately and constructively without labeling children.
- Work collaboratively with Directors and staff to support inclusive practices and meet individual child needs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00-$32.00 per hour
