Compensation Details
Dir, Business Development 20: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $127,380 to $169,828 plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring management-level employees to work in the office 3 days per week. (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDC's headquarters in Ottawa or one of its Regional Hubs in Toronto or Montreal

Team And Job Overview
The Sectors and International Advisory Team, which is part of the Mid-Market Group, is looking for an experienced leader to join our team to deliver on our mandate of creating business opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors. In the role of Director, Resource of the Future and Infrastructure, you will leverage your extensive professional network, business development skills, industry expertise, leadership, people and industry skills (Canadian capabilities and global supply chains) to lead the development of prioritized industry sector strategies/approaches and generate and nurture new export business opportunities for Canadian companies through your team, both directly and indirectly.
We are staffing one position. This role will also include leading the Canadian exporter engagement in the Business Connection Program and other strategic initiatives with a focus on metals and mining, including EDC's critical minerals strategy and infrastructure engagement, including our Indo-Pac approach for that sector as well as domestic trade enabling infrastructure. A key part of the success of this role is to support and enable other teams across EDC, including the Mid-Market Business to deliver results involving capital deployment, market penetration and network connections.
The Director will leverage a network of global trade directors and associates to deliver the multi-program approach and will be heavily focused on using collaboration and influence to harness the power of other subject matter experts across the organization and from external networks. What You Will Be Doing
- Lead the EDC critical minerals strategy; develop and implement an integrated plan to targeted sector areas of focus recognizing varying needs across the sectors, including critical minerals, infrastructure and forestry.
- Provide formal and informal leadership to both direct reports and a cross-functional group of designated subject matter experts such as program practitioners
- Foster insights gathering and exchange to amplify the ability of sector focused EDC practitioners to drive impact for Canadian exporters through a virtual 'knowledge center'
- Manage the delivery of a partnership approach to drive the roadmap priorities
- Build and deliver tools and approaches to support the shared objectives of various EDC teams for capital deployment, connections and market penetration including a robust referral approach
- Lead the on-going deployment of the Canadian exporter side of the Business Connection Program
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement to ensure optimal capacity utilization and challenge the status grow to identify and leverage synergies with the other teams in Sectors and International Advisory and other mid-market teams
What We Are Looking For
- Undergraduate or graduate degree (or equivalent professional designation) in relevant discipline
- Minimum 10 years of combined business development and technical advisory experience, preferably in the metals and mining sector
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience
- Advanced knowledge of best practices in sales and/or account management
- Well-developed and deep global professional network and strong technical and business knowledge acquired through directly relevant business activity
- Proven ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead virtual teams, leveraging influencing skills
- Fully bilingual (French and English)
- Non-bilingual candidates will be required to undergo intensive French training and commit to a learning plan
