 EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Public Works Labourer Utilities 700 hr contract

Summary of Functions:

Under the direction of the Operations Director or their designate, the incumbent is responsible for routine maintenance and operation of all services required for Public Works operations.

Education:

  • Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Must have good communication skills (i.e. reading and writing skills), including the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Valid Class 3 with airbrake endorsement considered an asset
  • Must be physically fit
  • Experience in small equipment operations is considered an asset
  • Experience with winter operations and snow removal is considered an asset.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in all operational aspects within the utilities department such as routine maintenance: eg. working with the hydro-vac, hydrant flushing program and water sampling. Assisting crews with emergency work such as obtaining locates, sewer and water underground repairs and snow removal.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces as well as at heights (training will be offered).
  • Performs minor maintenance on the equipment, such as fuelling, changing oil, greasing, washing, etc.
  • Assisting in preparation for special events such as parades, Canada day and other Town events.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must be willing to work overtime.
  • Willing to work toward the required certification levels in parks/roads and utilities.
  • Performs other related duties as required for other departments such as: Roads and Parks if needed.

  • Lifting weights exceeding 15 kg and up to an approximate maximum of 25 kg.
