Closing Date: Open until filled
Reporting to the Deputy Treasurer, the Assistant Accountant performs routine clerical, accounting and administrative work in administering the accounts receivables function and assists in carrying out financial functions related to Municipal accounting procedures.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum three-year Degree/Diploma majoring in Accounting or at a minimum the completion of the first three years of an accounting designation or post-secondary education majoring in accounting with a willingness to work towards completion of an accounting designation. In lieu of this qualification, three years public practice experience may be considered.
- A minimum of three years practical accounting experience in a work environment would be considered a asset
- A minimum of three years computer related experience in a work environment.
- Preference would be given to individuals currently enrolled in a professional accounting course and working towards an accounting designation with a demonstrated willingness to continue.
- Excellent computer skills, including keyboarding and number pad, as well as proficient use of adding machine
- Knowledge, training and experience in Municipal accounting procedures, especially in receivables.
- Good organizational skills, including an appreciation of the need for confidentiality, tact and discretion
- Excellent analytical skills and memory retention
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly, ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion, ability to work under pressure and/or with frequent interruptions.
- Working knowledge of computer packages such as: Windows, Microsoft Office, Lotus, Vailtech programs.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and various peripherals.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- May be required to pass a test designed to assess the job specifications and the knowledge, skills and abilities as outlined within this posting, and achieve a minimum score of 65%.
Duties:
- Performs routine clerical, accounting, and administrative work within the finance function for the City.
- The City is looking for an individual who enjoys a variety of work experiences and is prepared to take on a challenge.
