Overhead Door Installer

Northern Doors in Grande Prairie, Alberta is growing Our Overhead Door Division is currently seeking an experienced Overhead Door Installer / Service Technician to join our team.

We are well-established, family-oriented company proudly based in Grande Prairie, AB. We service all of Grande Prairie and surrounding Peace Country. Northern Doors services, maintains and installs an extensive range of products, such as: commercial overhead doors, residential garage doors, hollow metal man doors and so much more.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Installing, servicing, and repairing various overhead door products including: sectional overhead doors, electric operators, gate operators, loading dock equipment, rolling doors, fire doors, rollshutters, etc.
• Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork daily, including workorders with clear notes, jobsite photos, safety paperwork, preventative maintenance sheets, and related forms.
• Communicate effectively and maintain positive relationships with customers, builders, and contractors, including phone calls and texts to notify customers of arrival times and addressing on-site issues.
• Work closely and maintain consistent communication with the service advisor at all times.
• Thoroughly assess the job scope at the start of each project and promptly notify the salesperson and service advisor of any discrepancies, including warranty issues, site conditions, safety concerns, or required product orders.
• In the event that a proposal is required for additional work, provide detailed notes to the estimator, including jobsite photos, and time required to complete the job.
• Collaborate with the shop foreman on loading/unloading, inventory control, and general housekeeping.
• Working closely with your helper (when assigned one) to complete all necessary assigned tasks.
• Collaborate with the Safety Coordinator to maintain safe jobsite practices and complete all required daily safety paperwork.
• Ensure your company truck is clean, well-maintained, and stocked appropriately. Perform equipment safety walk-arounds and submit repair paperwork to the Safety Coordinator as needed.
• Safely and responsibly load, transport, and unload products, including trailers and lift equipment, to and from jobsites.
• Maintain a tidy jobsite and properly dispose of all garbage.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years' experience working as a Lead Overhead Door Technician; including installing, servicing, and repairing various overhead door products including: sectional commercial overhead doors, sectional garage doors, electric operators, gate operators, loading dock equipment, rolling doors, fire doors, rollshutters, etc.
• Mechanically inclined, and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
• Reliable, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work comfortably at various heights
• Ability to perform heavy lifting, often overhead; must be physically fit and capable of lifting over 75 lbs comfortably, independently, and repetitively throughout the day.
• Ability to walk, stand, and/or kneel for extended periods while performing required tasks.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must be able to read, write, & speak English fluently.
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and environments.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient in operating hand tools, power/electric tools, lift equipment, and ladders safely and efficiently.
• Steel-toed work boots and hard hat required.
• Required to participate in a rotational on-call schedule, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, supporting 24-hour emergency service year-round.
• Valid driver's license, and clean driver's abstract.
• Ability to pass a standard drug and alcohol test.
• CDI Certification is an asset but is not required.
• Any relevant safety training and safety tickets are considered an asset; such as: Welding, Aerial Work Platform, Fall Protection, H2S, First Aid, Forklift Training, etc, but are not required.

Employment Type:

• Permanent Full-Time
• Contract work may be discussed if desired.

Office Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, closed all major holidays

Service Hours & Overtime:

• Our company provides 24-hour emergency service. All Lead Hands participate in a rotational on-call schedule. Overtime, including evenings, weekends and occasional holidays will be required.
• Occasional out-of-town overnight work will also be required.
