About Able Innovations

Able Innovations Inc. is a Toronto-based, Canadian-owned company revolutionizing healthcare with intelligent robotics. Since 2018, we have been designing, manufacturing and delivering advanced robotic solutions to acute care hospitals across North America. Our flagship product, the ALTA Platform, is a one-of-a-kind patient transfer solution that addresses critical challenges in hospital workflows, thereby minimizing staff injuries and enhancing patient dignity through safe and seamless automation.

About the position

As our Validation Engineer, you will be working at the intersection of mechanical, electrical and software domains to design, execute and automate test procedures across the full stack-from assembly validation to embedded software.

You will play a critical role in identifying and triaging issues-is it a software bug, a hardware fault, or a mechanical misalignment?-and ensuring that every release meets the highest bar for quality and uptime.

This role is ideal for someone early in their career who thrives on structured problem-solving, hands-on testing and building tools that improve efficiency, clarity and confidence across the team.

This role is 100% in office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain test plans and procedures for mechanical subassemblies, electrical systems, embedded firmware, HMI and system-level integration
  • Build and improve automated test systems to validate software and hardware functionality across the stack
  • Debug and triage complex system issues, distinguishing between electrical, mechanical, firmware or user interface root causes
  • Own the software release validation process, ensuring system integrity and zero software regressions while coordinating system test coverage for all builds.
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical and software teams to ensure testability, traceability, and reproducibility
  • Collect and analyze system telemetry to identify trends, reliability issues or latent bugs
  • Support manufacturing and assembly teams with incoming QA procedures and production-level verification
  • Document all test protocols, outcomes, and corrective actions to support continuous improvement and regulatory submissions (Health Canada, FDA, ISO 60601, etc.)
  • Collaborate with engineering on failure analysis, root cause investigation and reliability improvements

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Software or Biomedical Engineering
  • ~2 years of industry experience in QA, test engineering or systems validation
  • Strong understanding of control systems, embedded systems and multi-domain integration
  • Comfort working with lab tools, test equipment and Python for test automation
  • Experience or interest in medical device development and regulatory processes
  • Experience writing or maintaining automated tests for physical systems or embedded devices
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented and proactive mindset
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when triaging ambiguous or cross-domain issues
  • Familiarity with ISO 60601, FDA Class I/II or Health Canada medical device regulations

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with Git, CI/CD or test automation frameworks
  • Exposure to robotics, motion systems, or electromechanical actuation
  • Comfort working with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and low-level debugging tools

Attributes of a successful candidate:

  • Take ownership: Take responsibility and accountability for your tasks
  • Proactive: When a challenge or problem is identified, you actively seek ways to address or mitigate it
  • Resourceful: Find creative ways to solve problems and think out of the box
  • Adaptable: Able to respond to rapidly changing project requirements

Application Requirements:

Please submit a tailored resume and cover letter as a single PDF document with the naming format "VE2509_Firstname_Lastname". Feel free to include any relevant projects/portfolio.

Failure to adhere to these requirements will result in immediate rejection of an application.
