Position Summary: Family Service PEI is seeking a Financial Empowerment Worker to support the expansion of our services in Prince County. The successful candidate will support individuals and families in achieving greater financial stability and reducing financial stress. This role involves building community awareness of the service, providing non-judgmental one-on-one financial education and coaching, connecting people with eligible benefits and community resources, as well as facilitating financial education workshops. The Financial Empowerment Worker helps people living on low and moderate incomes reduce financial stress by building their financial knowledge & confidence, improving budgeting and saving habits, adopting strategies for debt management, and accessing income boosting benefits and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one trauma-informed financial information and coaching
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify financial challenges and goals
  • Assist individuals with building financial knowledge, skills and confidence in areas including budgeting and spending plans, credit, debt reduction, and savings
  • Provide information on accessing government benefits, tax credits, and community resources
  • Support clientele with system navigation and advocacy
  • Track progress and outcomes using case notes and data management systems
  • Facilitates group workshops on financial literacy topics such as banking, credit, debt, and consumerism
  • Work with a co-facilitator (when available) to develop meaningful learning opportunities for participants
  • Stay informed about trends in financial empowerment, household finances and poverty reduction
  • Support outreach and promotion efforts including community presentations, flyers, social media, and referral pathways
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners to support referrals and accessibility and to contribute to initiatives that support financial wellbeing
  • Collect and maintain accurate program data (registrations, attendance, demographics, feedback) and support basic evaluation activities, including surveys and qualitative feedback
  • Contribute to program reporting, summaries, and continuous improvement efforts

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in social work, finance, community development, psychology or a combination of relevant education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience in finance, social services, community outreach, adult education
  • Strong understanding of personal finance, including budgeting, credit, and debt
  • Demonstrated experience providing one-on-one support, coaching, or case management, ideally in a community-based, social service, financial, or helping-profession setting
  • Experience supporting individuals or families to identify goals, problem-solve challenges, and build skills or confidence over time, using a client-centred or strengths-based approach
  • Experience working with diverse populations, especially low-income or marginalized communities
  • Experience delivering group workshops or public presentations
  • Lived experience is an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Non-judgmental, empathetic, strength based and culturally sensitive approach
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Proven community development and networking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Requirements:

  • Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required
  • Travel within Prince Edward Island
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week. Our core office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm but we can provide a flexible schedule. Most of the work should take place during regular business hours, however, some evenings and weekend work may be required.

Location: This position is hybrid with 3 scheduled days a week in our Summerside office and will require travel in the province. Mileage is reimbursed for offsite travel.
