Position Description:
 

The Sterile IV Compounding Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in compounding timely sterile preparations and distribution of medications and IV solutions for inpatient and infusion center patients in conjunction with established guidelines, policies and statutory requirements. This position assists with maintaining drug inventory and maintenance of IV clean rooms to ensure effective patient care. The Sterile IV Compounding Pharmacy Technician works only under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities:

• Compound sterile IV medications accurately and safely under pharmacist supervision.

• Maintain accurate labeling, packaging, and timely delivery of medications.

• Perform quality checks and comply with USP, regulatory, and safety guidelines.

• Manage inventory, including ordering, restocking, rotating stock, and removing expired meds.

• Assist with audits, quality control, and medication storage area inspections.

• Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean, organized pharmacy environment.

• Communicate professionally with staff, patients, and external partners.

• Support efficient workflow and medication distribution processes.

Qualifications:
1. Certified as a Pharmacy Technician with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy required.
2. Certification in Sterile IV compounding by an accredited institution or willing to become certified within six months of beginning work
3. Minimum of one year Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
4. Basic computer literacy preferred.
