Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a
Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Apprentice
to work out of mill site near
Athabasca,
Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, adjusting, overhaul and maintenance of mobile heavy-duty equipment, as in dozers, wheeled loader, button tops, dump trucks, forklifts etc.

This apprenticeship position is a 4-year contract, with Al-Pac providing training and the coverage of education costs for the successful candidate.

Role Responsibilities

With guidance from Al-Pac team members, responsibilities for this role include:

  • Overhaul, repair and maintenance of all mechanical components of heavy commercial and industrial vehicles.
  • Mounted attachments to heavy equipment.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, replaces and tests all components of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, engine starting systems, and steering and braking systems.
  • Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, replaces and tests all components of clutches, hydraulic couplings, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies.
  • Inspects, repairs or replaces equipment winches, power take-offs, pneumatic or hydraulic pumps, booms, cables, blades and buckets. Inspects, repairs, overhauls and re-assembles electrical components such as alternators, distributors, starters, relays and solenoids, etc.
  • Prepares work estimates of labour and parts costs; writes service reports. Interprets technical manuals relating to manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements.
  • Keep records and initiate work notification for detailed repairs.
  • Skill in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment

Role Requirements

  • Indentured Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Apprentice, or planning to enroll.
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
  • Successfully complete any required program entrance exams and Alberta-Pacific's on-line skill assessment
  • Must have a valid driver's license (GDL removed) with an acceptable driving history
