Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to graduate students in MBAI 5100G – Business Analytics.

The current schedule is:

Fridays 8:10am – 11:00am

Please note that this course will be delivered in person on Ontario Tech University's north campus in Oshawa, Ontario. Unless required for student registration purposes, the schedule is not subject to change without approval from an Associate Dean and/or the Dean.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above.  In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract. 

Qualifications: 

In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the graduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.

Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.

Required Education:

Candidates must have a PhD/PhD (ABD) in Computer Science. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on AI/ML.

Candidates who have a PhD/PhD (ABD) in a field related to Computer Science may be considered, provided that they can demonstrate their expertise in AI/ML.

Required Skills:

The successful candidate will have:

●      Excellent communication skills.

●      Strong organizational skills.

●      Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner.

●      High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meet and Kaltura.

●      Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.

●      An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.

●      An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community.

Required Experience:

Knowledge of AI programming is a strong asset. Candidates should include information about their knowledge of and experience in AI programming in their application. Knowledge and experience can be demonstrated by one or more of the following:

●       Experience teaching university-level courses in AI Programming, with a focus on Python programming and machine learning algorithms; and/or

●       Scholarship in the field of AI Programming, as demonstrated through publications, preferably in peer-reviewed journals; and/or

●       Professional work experience in the field of AI Programming.

Candidates should include materials relevant to their experience with their application. These materials may include details about their professional work experience, copies of their publications, and/or the outlines of courses they have taught in the past.

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
