Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in INFR 4611U – Trust Systems.

The current schedule is:

Lecture - Mondays 11:10am – 12:30pm

Tutorial - Tuesdays 2:10pm – 5:00pm

Please note that this course will be delivered in person on Ontario Tech University's north campus in Oshawa, Ontario. Unless required for student registration purposes, the schedule is not subject to change without approval from an Associate Dean and/or the Dean.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications:

In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.

Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.

Required Education:

The successful applicant must hold:

  • Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in computer science, with a focus on security-related issues; OR

  • Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in information security; OR

  • Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in cybersecurity.

Preference will be given to candidates whose research has focused on trust systems.

Required Skills:

Technical Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • A strong understanding of trust models (e.g., zero trust, reputation systems), cybersecurity principles, cryptography, secure systems design, and AI/ML model interpretability and reliability;

  • The ability to analyze trust mechanisms (both formal models and qualitative systems);

  • An understanding of how trust systems function across different domains;

  • The ability to connect the technical, social, and ethical dimensions of trust; AND

  • The ability to foster critical thinking about emerging technologies and their societal impact.

Teaching and Administrative Skills

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Experience in lecture preparation and delivery, assessment design, and student engagement, and

  • Proficiency in writing effective teaching materials (e.g., slides, handouts, notes).

Required Experience:

Teaching experience in computer science or cybersecurity is an asset.

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
