Indigenous Community Reintegration Caseworker

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Indigenous Community Reintegration Caseworker's primary responsibility is to provide reintegration and recovery supports to urban Indigenous individuals being released from custody and on community supervision, by connecting clients with accessible community programs and services to improve their lives and avoid justice system recidivism. This position will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, and coordinate culturally relevant services and support, to facilitate healing and healing pathways, and to provide a client-centered approach to case management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred degree in Social Services, Justice, Indigenous Studies, or in a relevant human service field and/or minimum 2 years work experience in a justice services environment.
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, incarceration, the impacts of trauma, engagement and community outreach; knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the judicial system, Criminal Code, and other related federal and provincial statutes, and related court decisions regarding Indigenous persons. Knowledge of sentencing principles, alternative measures and restorative justice principles.
- Experience in community service planning, delivery, and administration.
- Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented setting.
- Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills; meet deadlines.
- Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills; excellent interviewing and counselling skills.
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment.
- Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands; ability to problem solve and take initiative.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
- A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance is a condition of employment.
