Our challenge
We are seeking an experienced Digital Architect to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex digital systems within a large organizational environment. This role involves providing architectural leadership to agile product teams, mentoring technical staff, and driving modern, scalable, and secure solutions aligned with best practices and enterprise standards.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Location is CAD $130k – CAD $135k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role - Service Designer - Senior
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor cross-functional agile product teams, providing clear architectural direction and guidance.
- Design and deliver enterprise-scale solutions utilizing modern development stacks, cloud-native patterns, and integration strategies.
- Collaborate with UX, service design, and human-centered design teams to ensure solutions meet end-user needs.
- Define, communicate, and enforce solution architecture standards across projects and teams.
- Develop modernization strategies for legacy systems and oversee incremental transformation initiatives.
- Architect API-driven systems, system integrations, and service-oriented architectures.
- Incorporate secure development practices and identity/access management solutions, including Zero Trust Architecture principles.
- Contribute to establishing reusable components, APIs, and shared services to improve efficiency and reduce duplication.
- Work closely with stakeholders, including non-technical teams, to translate complex technical concepts into understandable language.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional agile teams, providing architecture guidance, and mentoring.
- Extensive background as a software architect, designing enterprise-level systems with modern development stacks.
- Solid understanding of UX, service design, design thinking, and human-centered approaches.
- Proven ability to develop and communicate architecture solutions for large, complex systems, including modernization and cloud-native designs.
- Strong communication skills, capable of influencing decisions and engaging diverse stakeholders.
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience with secure development practices, identity, and access management, including RBAC, ABAC, and Zero Trust models.
- Expertise in modern web application development with responsive, accessible UI frameworks.
- API design and management, including RESTful services and system integrations.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment, and system observability.
- Knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience with distributed system architectures such as event-driven, microservices, and domain-driven design.
- Familiarity with the Government of Alberta's IT policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, schema design, and performance tuning.
- Background working within public sector digital service frameworks and enterprise architecture standards.
- Prior involvement in complex identity and access management scenarios.
