The Junior Human Resources Consultant is an important member of the Human Resources team, providing comprehensive support across a variety of Human Resources functions. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-focused, and able to manage confidential information with discretion. This role contributes to the delivery of Human Resources and payroll services while supporting employees and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Human Resources Administration
- Support the administration of the HRIS (Payworks) system by assisting with data entry, updates, and ensuring overall accuracy;
- Assist the Human Resources team with projects, audits, and policy or process updates to ensure consistency across all business units;
- Provide support throughout the full recruitment cycle, including preparing job postings, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, collecting required documentation, and assisting with onboarding activities;
- Assist with employee communications, such as Human Resources announcements, newsletters, and engagement initiatives;
- Support the coordination of training and development activities by scheduling courses, maintaining certification records, and assisting with the facilitation of training sessions, including employee onboarding;
- Provide support to the Human Resources team in all areas of Workplace Health and Safety and in the administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), including assisting with reporting and documentation;
- Assist with employee transitions related to disability, leaves, and retirement by helping to prepare documentation and ensuring timely communication;
- Provide back-up support to the Human Resources team across functions including benefit administration, disability management, return-to-work programs, and Workplace Health and Safety;
Disability Management
- Support disability management processes, including Long-Term Disability (LTD) and Workers' Compensation (WCB), by assisting with reporting requirements and maintaining accurate documentation;
- Assist with preparing and submitting Employer Injury Reports, tracking active claims, and maintaining up-to-date records;
- Support the coordination of modified duties and return-to-work programs in collaboration with managers, departments, and employees;
- Assist with maintaining communication with case managers, medical professionals, and employees to help support safe and timely returns to work;
- Help analyze and report on disability and claims data to support the identification of trends and opportunities for improvement;
Payroll and Benefits Administration
- Assist with the administration and maintenance of employee health benefit plans and the RRSP matching program, including supporting enrollment, changes, and terminations;
- Support employee inquiries related to benefits and RRSP participation by providing general information on eligibility, coverage, and contributions;
- Provide support to the Payroll Coordinator as needed, including assistance with payroll processing during vacations or absences;
- Perform other duties as assigned;
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate in Human Resource Management and active CPHR candidacy required;
- 1–3 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within a unionized or non-profit environment is preferred;
- Knowledge of current employment practices, Human Rights legislation, the Employment Standards Code, and the Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations;
- Experience working with HRIS systems (Payworks experience considered an asset);
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications;
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities;
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality;
- Demonstrated decision making and problem solving skills;
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks;
- Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks;
- Valid class 5I driver's license, and access to a reliable vehicle is preferred.
