Freelance Assistant Video Editor

Location: Fully Remote (Candidate must be based in Canada)

Rate: $30-45/hour (Freelance/Contract Position rate TBD on experience)

Reports to: Lead Cinematographer & Editor

About the Role: My Organizational Co-Pilot:

I am a busy content producer and cinematographer seeking a workflow wizard and proactive Assistant Editor to be my organizational co-pilot. I have built a Premiere Pro project template that standardizes our starting point, but I need a sharp, detail-oriented partner to own it, evolve it, and build upon that foundation.

My primary focus must be on story, creative cuts, and client vision. Your role is to ensure that when a project lands on my "desk", it's as perfectly organized, prepped, and ready for me to dive straight into the creative work without as much friction as possible. This is a partnership where your efficiency and systematic thinking will directly enable higher-level storytelling and hopefully we can grow from there to a place where if you want to do more, I'm open to listen and give you opportunity to do so as well.

Your Mission:

You won't be starting from scratch, but you will be the guardian of our workflow. For a typical project, you will:

· Launch & Adapt:

Start from our established project template and adapt it to the specific needs of each shoot, whether it's a 10-minute docu style piece or a 2-minute spot with five deliverables.

· Tame the Media:

Ingest H.264 footage from Sony FX-series cameras, sync multi-camera angles with external audio (when required), and ensure all assets are logically structured and labeled.

· Build the Delivery Framework:

After picture lock, take ownership of creating the 9:16, 3:4, and 16:9 timeline variants, ensuring the edit is optimally reframed for each platform.

· Execute Polish:

Add captions, ensure brand logos are consistently placed, and perform basic audio sweetening across all deliverables.

You notice when a logo is off, a caption is out of sync, or a clip is in the wrong bin. Inconsistencies bother you—in a good way.

Qualifications & Technical Must-Haves:

· Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

· 1-2 years of experience in an Assistant Editor, Post-Production Assistant, or similar technical role, (will consider non-"official" positions such as: YouTube creator etc)

· Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro is non-negotiable.

Proficiency with Adobe Media Encoder is essential.

• Adobe Suite CC Subscription Required

· Demonstrable experience with multi-format delivery (e.g., creating 9:16, 1:1, and 16:9 versions from a primary timeline).

· Solid experience with captioning workflows and basic graphics integration (Essential Graphics panel).

· A reliable, powerful computer and a fast, stable internet connection for remote work and large file transfers.
