Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Site Remediation Specialist
to support and lead contaminated site assessment, remediation, and closure activities across Canada. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of provincial and federal environmental regulations, risk-based closure frameworks, and proven experience managing complex contaminated sites, including those impacted by LNAPL, PHCs, salinity, and/or PFAS.
Site Assessment & Remediation Planning
- Lead Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with Canadian standards (e.g., CSA, provincial guidelines).
Develop and implement remedial action plans for contaminated sites including:
LNAPL (Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids)
- Petroleum Hydrocarbons (PHCs)
- Salinity impacts
- PFAS contamination (experience with one or more is acceptable)
- Prepare conceptual site models and evaluate remedial alternatives to support decision-making.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk-Based Frameworks
- Apply risk-based assessment and closure frameworks used across Canadian jurisdictions, such as:
- CCME (Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment) guidelines
- Provincial frameworks (e.g., BC CSR, Alberta Tier 1 & Tier 2, Ontario O. Reg. 153/04, Quebec RBCA-based criteria, Atlantic RBCA)
- Liaise with provincial regulators and prepare documentation to support applications for site closure, risk management plans, and regulatory approvals.
Project Execution & Oversight
- Oversee on-site remediation system implementation, contractor management, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian health, safety, and environmental requirements, including provincial OHS legislation.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables, ensuring high technical quality.
Technical Leadership
- Provide senior technical review of assessments, remedial designs, and technical reports.
- Mentor junior and intermediate environmental professionals.
- Support proposal development and contribute to the growth of remediation services across Canada.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive experience in contaminated site assessment and remediation in Canada.
- Degree in environmental engineering, geological sciences, hydrogeology, environmental science, or related discipline.
- Experience with remediation technologies for LNAPL, PHC, salinity, and/or PFAS impacts.
- Strong understanding of Canadian environmental legislation and provincial regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated project management experience, including managing contractors and field programs.
- Exceptional communication and technical writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional designation in Canada: P. Eng., P. Geo., P. Ag., or EP(CEA) (or eligibility).
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or on culturally sensitive sites.
- Familiarity with emerging contaminants and innovative remediation technologies applicable to Canadian climates and site conditions.
- Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset for national roles.
