Title: Middleware Specialist - Senior
Duration: 88 Days with extensions
Work Location: 777 Bay St., Toronto, ON (Onsite, five days per week)

Pay Rate: C$70-C$80/hr

Role Overview

The Middleware Specialist will support multiple teams and applications with a strong focus on vulnerability management and secure middleware operations. Responsibilities include:

• Identifying and assessing vulnerabilities using scanning tools (e.g., Qualys or equivalent).
• Applying security patches and updates in alignment with security and organizational policies.
• Performing configuration hardening in accordance with best practices and compliance standards.
• Ensuring middleware systems are aligned with established security frameworks.
• Collaborating with applications, infrastructure, and security teams to support secure deployments.
• Preparing vulnerability reports, risk assessments, and remediation updates.

Required Technical Skills (50%)

• Installation, configuration, and maintenance of middleware technologies such as:
• IBM WebSphere
• JBoss
• Oracle WebLogic
• Apache Tomcat
• Conducting vulnerability scans and assessments using tools such as Qualys.
• Evaluating CVEs and vendor advisories to determine severity and impact.
• Applying security patches and updates to middleware and .NET environments.
• Implementing hardening standards, baseline configurations, and compliance frameworks.
• Coordinating with technical teams to respond to incidents and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Automating patching and configuration management processes.
• Maintaining documentation for middleware design, security configurations, and vulnerability remediation.

Experience Requirements (50%)

• Extensive experience with enterprise middleware platforms (WebSphere, JBoss, WebLogic, Tomcat).
• Strong knowledge of vulnerability management methodologies and tooling.
• Proven ability to analyze CVEs, evaluate risk, and define mitigation strategies.
• Hands-on experience applying security updates and patches to middleware and .NET components.
• Expertise in Linux/Unix and Windows environments, including system-level hardening.
• Experience in .NET application deployment and IIS security configuration.
• Familiarity with cloud-based security management services (e.g., Azure Security Center, Defender for Cloud).
• Experience collaborating with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams in large organizational environments.

• Solid knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows hardening
• CVE analysis and risk mitigation capability
• Effective cross-team collaboration and incident response skills
