PT Family Support Worker Family Resource Centre
Job Summary:
The Family Resource Centre (FRC) provides support and resources for family members of those with a mental illness or addiction concern. The FRC aims to ensure caregivers stay well and maintain their own mental health while supporting a loved one on their recovery journey. In doing so, the case manager will support the program's needs including the response to program inquiries, providing information on relevant community services to the public, attending to the waitlist, and screening of clients. The case manager will assess the needs of family members, triaging individuals within the array of FRC services including brief support, supportive counselling, group facilitation, system navigation, and advocacy.
Further, the position is responsible for guidance of the FRC Peer Volunteer Program to enhance and complement our program services. The case manager will support the Peer Volunteers in utilizing their lived experience to provide peer mentorship and group co-facilitation. The incumbent will provide guidance to the volunteers by assisting with training, skill building, decision-making, and the application of volunteer peer services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- University Degree in a health-related discipline.
- Three years of relevant experience providing services to family members whose loved ones live with serious mental health issues/illness and/or addictions issues.
- Experience working within a case management model, preferred.
- Experience in group development and facilitation, an asset.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR, an asset.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), an asset.
- Knowledge of Peer models, Family Support best practices, and Volunteer programming is an asset.
- French Language proficiency considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to manage and minimize conflict between family members, with their loved ones, or with service providers.
- Excellent ability to empathize, build a therapeutic alliance, and provide a safer atmosphere for family members.
- Strong ability to direct sessions with individuals in the interest of providing new learning opportunities.
- Knowledge of family lived experience perspectives, and an ability to provide a balanced perspective between professional and peer values.
- Demonstrated in‐depth knowledge of mental health symptoms, issues, psychotropic medications, and associated side effects.
- Knowledge of issues related to addictions is an asset.
- Demonstrated assessment and crisis intervention skills with broad knowledge of emergency mental health and crisis stabilization. NCVI training an asset.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical reasoning and decision‐making skills.
- Ability to effectively utilize community resources and supports to meet the needs of family members.
- Ability to work under pressure within a changing environment.
- Working knowledge of the Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, and other relevant legislation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively engage community services and individuals, increasing awareness of services
- Well‐developed problem‐solving, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills; MS Office preferred
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License and have regular access to a reliable vehicle and provide proof of $2,000,000 vehicle insurance.
- Required to provide a satisfactory criminal reference check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to employment
