Community Home Care Nurse
Location: West End Communities, servicing Garden River First Nation, Batchewana First Nation, and Thessalon First Nation
Full-Time: 37.5 hours/week flexible schedule based on client needs
Salary Range: $58,662 - $64,101
The opportunity. Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services provides primary health, traditional healing, mental health, home and community support services and health promotion services to community members of the seven First Nations of the North Shore Tribal Council, is inviting applications for a highly skilled Home Care Nurse to join their Home and Community Support Services team. The objective is to provide comprehensive nursing care in the community setting and that assists clients to achieve optimum health and quality of life in order to remain at home independently.

We have recently been approved as the first Indigenous lead Ontario Health Team by the Ministry of Health.

What you need to bring with you:
• Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum of 2-years' experience in a traditional nursing role (acute care/long-term care or primary care settings) will be considered.
• Full-scope RPN skills required; IV therapy, wound care, ostomy, tube-feeding and palliative care experience required
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
• Proficient in using electronic medical record systems
• Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must be prepared to respond to emergency situations
• Indigenous cultural competency training certification
• Experience working with the elderly in a community setting is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate health teaching
• A clear vulnerable sector criminal reference check is a condition
of employment
• Must have access to a personal vehicle
• Must have a valid driver's license
What to expect. Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time-to-time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar may occur. Hiring of Indigenous People will be given preference, as allowed under Section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code – Special Programs.
