Characters

EA Create Characters, the multifaceted team mostly based between Orlando, Florida and Vancouver, Canada is best known for creating amazing work in titles such as Battlefield, Dragon Age, Dead Space, and Need for Speed, Star Wars, UFC, FC to name a few; and we're looking for a Character Artist to work on upcoming titles. This role will report into the Blendshapes Director.

Character Artist

As a Character Artist, you guide the entire creation process of characters. This will include working with scan data and photos to create the neutral head, blendshapes, body and costumes for in game use. You will work with off the shelf tools along with in-house production tools to create art across multiple teams within EA. You will work directly with the Lead Character Artist, the Character Art Director and Animation Director to ensure content is meeting the quality bar.

Responsibilities:
  • Use provided concept art and references to create highly detailed character and creature models
  • Create high poly models, UVs, in game topology and textures to ensure high quality in game characters that work within our technical constraints.
  • Help the team developing and pushing past our current boundaries
  • Blendshape creation
  • Collaboration with our client partners through art reviews
  • Work with external vendors to maintain quality
  • Document workflows that will be used by fellow team members
Qualifications:
  • 7+ years experience in Character in games or films
  • Experience working with Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Wrap4D
  • Knowledge of Marvelous Designer
  • Expert understanding of human anatomy, proportion, silhouette, topology and deformation
  • Highly skilled at sculpting, modeling, texturing, shading characters and assets for games or films
  • Very strong portfolio showing high quality characters
  • Keen eye to form, lighting, colors and composition
Bonus:
  • Game Engine Experience (Commercial or Proprietary)
  • Understanding of FACS
  • Grooming Skills

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$111,600 - $152,800 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, and extended health/dental/vision coverage and basic life insurance.
