Agropur is looking for a Packaging Specialist to join its team in St-Hubert.

The Packaging Spécialiste will work closely with the Director of R&D – Packaging and Technology to develop and oversee packaging specifications, lead reengineering initiatives, ensure coordination between corporate offices and plants, and manage sourcing projects and supplier/SKU implementations. This strategic role contributes to optimizing packaging processes while supporting innovation and operational efficiency goals.

  • Salary Scale 005: $82,600 to $103,200 (Base salary will be determined based on academic background, experience, training, and job-related skills.)

What This Role Involves

  • Develop and formalize technical specifications for packaging solutions
  • Act as an internal expert on assigned packaging types
  • Collaborate on innovation in packaging materials and concepts
  • Analyze market trends and competitor practices to improve cost and efficiency
  • Propose packaging reformulations and conduct related case studies
  • Apply continuous improvement tools (e.g., problem-solving, root cause analysis)
  • Lead or support Design to Value (DTV) workshops to optimize packaging design
  • Collaborate with plants and procurement teams to ensure technical requirements are accurately reflected in sourcing processes
  • Influence internal stakeholders to adopt innovative practices
  • Provide technical support on packaging-related projects (quality issues, specification changes, plant trials)
  • Manage procurement and reformulation projects while minimizing operational disruptions
  • Participate in onboarding new suppliers and SKUs, including plant trials
  • Define target costs to support procurement negotiations
  • Contribute to supplier technical audits in collaboration with the Quality team
  • Foster strategic partnerships with suppliers to drive innovation and performance

What You Need To Join Our Team

  • Bachelor's degree in materials, mechanical, chemical engineering, or other relevant field;
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role within the food industry;
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials (cardboard and plastic), polymer science, and material interactions;
  • Good understanding of product development processes;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English (English is required to collaborate with colleagues in other Canadian provinces).
