Your Opportunity

Our Ontario GTA Transportation Business Line has a need for a Project Controls Specialist in a full-time permanent capacity, based in Markham office.  As Project Controller you will be working directly with a team of Project Managers and Leadership in the Transportation Business Line to provide financial and change management support on scope, schedule, and cost throughout the life cycle of projects. Our projects are multi-discipline, engineering, water, landscape architectural, planning, etc. that can include some or all of the following project phases: proposal, conceptual, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction phases. As a project controls team member at Stantec, you will utilize your expertise in financial planning, scheduling, cost controls, communications, and problem solving in a fast-paced, professional environment to assist the Transportation team with project delivery and program development.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work with project managers to regularly develop and analyze project forecasts (which includes project schedule and costs) along with communicating results to upper-level management.
  • Assist project managers with the preparation of budgets for new projects and change orders in conjunction with clients and other team members. Along with reviewing WIP/AR and monthly invoices.
  • Monitor the progress of projects on a regular basis to evaluate potential financial risks and ensure financial health and proper tracking in accordance with standards.
  • Perform internal project audits and financial reconciliations along with reviewing newly created projects with the internal financial system.
  • Track and evaluate potential risks and their impact on the project schedule and financial health.
  • Work with Project Managers to proactively identify and develop change orders.
  • Support development, administration and monitoring of project sub- consultant agreements.
  • Liaise between project technical leads and project managers to monitor and control project resourcing and accounting.
  • Assist project managers with compliance of Stantec and ISO standards for Project Management, including participation in audits.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong understanding of all phases of project controls concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
  • Thorough understanding of project accounting, accrual collection and cost-based accounting.
  • Solid understanding of principles and methods related to Earned Value Management (EAC, ETC, CPI, SPI, VAC etc.).
  • Ability to multi-task, manage time, organize, and set priorities and make timely decisions.
  • Self-motivated, proactive individual with a strong work ethic, capable of prioritizing and communicating to multiple groups.
  • Able to adapt quickly to changing work demands without compromising accuracy and quality of work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications along with strong problem solving and analytical skills (including attention to detail).
  • Positive attitude, with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office skills, with advanced skills in MS Excel (Pivots, V-Lookups, SUMIFS etc.). Experience with Financial/Cost systems (Oracle, Prolog, etc.) is preferred.
  • Prior work in project controls/senior project accounting role is a plus.
