Calgary, Alberta, Canada Kambo Energy Group Full time $60,000 - $80,000 per year

About Kambo Energy Group

Working in partnership with utilities, governments, Indigenous Nations, and other industry partners we reduce energy poverty, accelerate decarbonization, and improve housing in traditionally underserved communities across Canada and the United States. Kambo delivers three in-house programs: Empower Me, Community Power, and the Home Upgrades Program.

Empower Me delivers multilingual education, support, and coaching services to ensure underrepresented communities have access to energy, climate, and home retrofit programs.

Community Power supports Indigenous Nations to build, renovate, and improve community housing.

Home Upgrades Program provides fully subsidized energy retrofits to improve affordability for households living in energy poverty.

About the Opportunity

This is a fixed-term, project-based opportunity with field work required throughout various locations in Alberta. Reporting to the respective project's lead, the Home Assessor will perform comprehensive condition assessments on mixed types of residential properties for the purpose of identifying and reporting on deficiencies and opportunities for energy savings. This role will work alongside a second assessor on-site, and remotely with a larger office-based team.

Using a customized data collection tool, you will perform home assessments according to Community Power's standards and work with a team to generate detailed findings reports. Results of these reports will be used by the customer to address urgent housing issues, develop capital plans, schedule renovations, and inform long term maintenance strategies.

The successful applicant for this role will be comfortable dealing with regularly changing schedules and field conditions. You work effectively in small, collaborative teams and can drive work forward autonomously when needed. You enjoy sharing knowledge about your expertise and are approachable, friendly, and able to communicate to home occupants without judgement. Cultural sensitivity and respect when working in Indigenous communities is essential to success in this role.

This is a fully remote position that requires regular travel to urban, rural, and remote areas of Alberta as well as home-based office work. The successful applicant must have a flexible schedule which allows them to be away from home for 5-10 days at a time.

Core Accountabilities

  • Travel to various locations across Alberta to perform home condition assessments.
  • Assess the condition of all standard housing components such as foundations, windows and doors, roofs, attics, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems, etc.
  • Using mobile software, record all assessment findings including the quantity, types, and estimated remaining lifespan of all standard housing components.
  • Provide detailed notes and recommendations on home maintenance needs and repairs to support cost estimating, budgeting, and planning at a community level.
  • Have discussions with home occupants to identify any housing issues not visually apparent.
  • Using an internal customized pricing library, estimate the cost of all required repairs and replacements identified during the assessment.
  • Generate detailed, accurate home assessment reports that provide a clear presentation of all findings.
  • Summarize and communicate assessments findings to the customer team in a clear and actionable way.
  • Collaborate with a small team of housing specialists to ensure the home assessment process continuously meets key project requirements and outcomes.
  • Support in the analysis of aggregate assessment results to identify common issues, trends, and valuable insights for the customer.
  • Use a variety of software to support data collection, assessment reporting, internal expense submissions, time tracking, and other tasks.

Qualifications

  • An active home inspectors' certification from a nationally recognized agency such as InterNACHI or CAHPI is required for this role, or 5+ years of direct experience in residential construction.
  • A thorough understanding of building science principles is required for this role.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn new software is required.
  • Experience in working with Indigenous and/or remote communities would be an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.

Employment Period and Compensation

  • Contract begins: December 1st, 2025
  • Contract ends: July 31st, 2026
  • Full-time position
  • Potential opportunity for permanent role at contract end
