Alberta Truss is seeking a motivated Junior Roof Truss & Engineered Wood Products (EWP) Designer to join our Edmonton team. This entry-level to early-career role is ideal for someone looking to develop technical expertise in residential truss and EWP design while working closely with experienced designers and engineers in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of roof truss and EWP systems in accordance with CSA standards and Alberta building codes
  • Prepare truss layouts, preliminary design drawings, and material take-offs under supervision
  • Review architectural drawings to identify basic design requirements and potential conflicts
  • Support senior designers in resolving design challenges and revising layouts
  • Coordinate with production and project teams to ensure accurate and buildable designs
  • Respond to basic technical inquiries from builders, contractors, and internal staff
  • Manage assigned projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards
  • Participate in ongoing training to improve design skills and software proficiency

Qualifications

  • 0–3 years of experience in roof truss or EWP design (or relevant education with strong interest in truss design)
  • Basic to intermediate experience with MiTek design software (training provided as needed)
  • Working knowledge of Canadian building codes and CSA requirements, or willingness to learn
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn from feedback
  • Good organizational, communication, and time-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering Technology diploma or construction-related education
  • Exposure to residential wood-frame construction
  • Familiarity with LVL, I-joists, floor systems, or prefabricated wood components
  • Interest in long-term career development in truss and structural design
