Reporting to the Housing Manager and Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Assistant responds to building and equipment maintenance needs in a timely manner.

  • Completes preventive maintenance on buildings and site equipment.
  • Performs general carpentry repairs such as removal and installation of baseboards and flooring, and completes vacant suite maintenance tasks.
  • Performs full painting and paint touch-ups in all vacant suites and common areas throughout all four buildings
  • Assists with shipping and receiving and general tasks as required.
  • Delivering groceries to resident suites
  • Receiving supply orders and stocking supplies in all buildings
  • Garbage and recycling removal
  • Ensures buildings and grounds are safe and hazard free including snow and ice removal when required.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists documenting work performed.
  • Promptly responds to emergency maintenance requests.
  • Assists with fire alarm and emergency light testing.
  • Collaborates with and assists other departments as requested.
  • Adheres to safe work practices.

Qualifications:

  • Experience required in residential or commercial painting 3+ years; performs minor plumbing and electrical repairs; preventative building maintenance; outdoor property maintenance. Some carpentry experience required.
  • Experience with general maintenance tools.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Physically fit with the ability to handle the physical demands of the position including lifting a minimum of 25-50 lbs., climbing, pushing, pulling, walking/standing for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to complete suite painting, deliveries of supplies within the buildings, and maintenance requests within specific timelines.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; demonstrate a positive attitude with excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience in a senior's retirement community an asset.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector dated within 6 months.
