Your Opportunity
Under the general direction of the Dean, Residence and Student Life (DRSL), the Assistant to the Dean, Student Life and Leadership (ADSLL) is responsible for facilitating student life activities within the College. Using the curricular model, the ADSLL, with a particular responsibility to commuter students, develops and implements comprehensive academic, social, educational and equity-based programming available to all New College students.
The ADSLL is part of a collaborative team and works in close cooperation with the Assistant to the Dean, Residence Life (ADRL), and the Assistant to the Dean, Administration (ADA).
As a member of the Office of Residence and Student Life (ORSL), the ADSLL will be committed to an equity that recognizes, supports, and responds to the diverse histories, lived and marginalized experiences of students and many communities.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
Planning and implementing components of co-curricular programs and activities, including orientation and transition programs for new students to the College in specific programs (e.g. the International Foundations Program, identified at-risk or marginalized populations, etc.), and ensuring that programs and activities are diverse and inclusive
Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
Conducting a detailed analysis of student feedback and learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
Developing student assessment plans to support student learning outcomes and competencies
Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students, and ensure that programming is accessible and Equity-Grounded
Advising student groups on the application of relevant policies and procedures, including the development of clubs and societies organized events
Resolving minor interpersonal disputes between students and/or student staff
Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience in student and residence life settings, with specific experience in building partnerships to develop, implement, and assess co-curricular programs/activities for postsecondary students.
Experience in facilitating collaborative partnerships and relationships with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. students, student leaders, staff, faculty, and administration) to foster an inclusive student community.
Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating accessible and inclusive programming to support student success in higher education.
Demonstrated experience with equity-based educational programming appealing to diverse student communities.
Demonstrated facilitation and workshop design experience at the postsecondary level.
Demonstrated experience advising student groups and organizations, interpreting policies, and developing positive working relationships.
Demonstrated experience advising students in transition, supporting students in distress, knowledge of risk management procedures, and experience supervising and training student staff and volunteers.
Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring of student leaders and staff.
Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and of legal and governance issues affecting student groups and higher education governance.
Demonstrated understanding of a student-centred approach with sensitivity to principles of equity and inclusivity.
Proven leadership skills to guide, motivate, and provide training to student staff and to advise and support student groups.
Superior project management skills with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to manage a set of competing priorities.
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Familiarity with video/audio conferencing software (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to adapt to new and changing priorities.
Excellent oral and written communication, and public speaking skills.
