WeArt Culture Center, located in Markham, is a federally registered non-profit art organization. Adhering to the philosophy of professionalism and openness, WeArt is committed to building a high-quality visual arts education platform serving both local and Chinese-background students and artists. With a Class A art studio faculty and strong partnerships—including our collaboration with the Oil Painting Academy of Canada—WeArt supports youth and students in applying to public school art programs, top private schools, and university-level art majors. Our programs meet diverse learning needs at every stage, from youth art enlightenment to professional artist development.

WeArt Academy, a sub-branch of WeArt Culture Center, is a BSID-accredited institution offering Ontario Art credit courses.

We are currently seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Art History Teacher to join our team. In this role, you will guide students in exploring global art traditions, major historical periods, artistic movements, and influential artists. You will help students develop critical thinking skills, visual literacy, and a deeper understanding of cultural and historical contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging Art History lessons aligned with the curriculum provided by the program director.
  • Teach students to analyze artworks through formal, contextual, and thematic approaches.
  • Guide students in understanding major art movements, historical periods, and global cultural influences.
  • Support students preparing for AP Art History, Ontario art credit requirements, or art-related university applications.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to plan and execute lectures, workshops, and exhibitions that integrate historical content.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating classroom environment.
  • Provide constructive feedback on students' written analyses, presentations, and research projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Art History, Visual Culture, Humanities, or a related field (required).
  • Strong knowledge of global art traditions, from ancient to contemporary.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring art history or humanities subjects (asset).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to design engaging lesson plans and explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful learning environment.
  • OCT/CQR certification is an asset but not required.
