Camp Counsellors are responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day implementation of direct program delivery in our Health & Fitness centres in an indoor environment. They will ensure that participants have a positive experience in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment.
In This Role, You Will:
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities and games for participants.
- Take attendance, ensure participants are signed into and out of the program.
- Set up and take down recreational, program and other equipment as required – at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation).
- Actively participate in recreational swim daily, while ensuring a safe aquatics experience for children.
- In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assist and encourage program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
- Perform other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members as assigned from time to time by supervisor.
You Bring:
- Current certification in the following award: Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid and CPR level C
- Experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting an asset
- The minimum age to apply for this position is 16 years old
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including weekday mornings and afternoons throughout the Winter and March Break
