Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Coordinator – Conventions & Visitor Services, and the technical direction of the Senior Travel Counsellor, provides information on the City to visitors in a tactful and courteous manner.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides information relating to the city to visitors and tourists
- Processes the tourist mail on a daily basis
- Prepares bulk information kits and individual VIP kits as required
- Records bulk literature upon arrival and advises supervisor of same
- Records and registers visitors on the visitor registration system
- Performs good housekeeping practices in Centre and storage areas
- Maintains daily inventory of all brochures pertaining to Thunder Bay and the region.
- Assists in keying of data entry for the section
- Assists cruise ship passengers at the dockside visitors centre at the Pool 6 site
- Conducts interpretive talks to visitors relating to subjects such as, but not limited to, Terry Fox, Lake Supervisor, and other local history
- Attending scheduled events outside the visitor centre when required Performs such other related duties as may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Must be a student registered with a college or university and must be returning to school in the fall
Skills & Abilities:
- Superior customer service skills and ability to deal with the public and staff in a courteous and tactful manner
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writin
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision
- Must be highly motivated and be able to work well in a team environment
- Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Word, Excel)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Required to wear a departmental uniform
- Must be willing to work shift work
