About the Role

Steelhaus Technologies is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant who will be responsible for  managing and improving the company's cost accounting and inventory control processes across multiple manufacturing cost centers. This position is responsible for ensuring that production orders are created, tracked, and closed accurately within the ERP system, while maintaining integrity in material usage, labor costing, and overall production data. The Cost Accountant works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and finance teams to analyze cost variances, monitor work-in-progress, and provide insights that drive efficiency, cost reduction, and profitability.

Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Production

  • Create production orders in the ERP system.
  • Add or update material codes and bills of materials (BOM) as needed.
  • Prepare purchase orders based on engineering drawings and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to align planned quantities with available inventory.

Production

  • Review material consumption for alignment with BOM and investigate discrepancies.
  • Post and validate scrap transactions and internal vendor invoices.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve costing accuracy and compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve production order or costing issues in a timely manner.

Post-Production

  • Complete and close production orders in ERP.
  • Review and analyze item cost variances and COGS.
  • Prepare month-end COGS accruals and related journal entries.

Other Responsibilities

  • Monitor WIP production orders and ensure timely closure.
  • Post and reconcile SR&ED consumption and scrap journals.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of absorption costing models.
  • Perform inventory reconciliations and month-end closing tasks.
  • Prepare product and invoice margin analyses.
  • Lead periodic physical inventory counts, reconciliations, and adjustments.
  • Support external audits and ad-hoc financial projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management, production order processing, and cost variance analysis.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., Business Central, SAP, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel and data management skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
