International Student Success and Engagement Coordinator

Purpose:
The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 27,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 25 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham location. Through innovative course design, diverse experiential education and learning opportunities, and a supportive community environment, our students receive the education they need to create big ideas that have an impact on the world.Reporting to the Manager, International Student Success & Engagement and as a member of the Associate Dean, Global & Community Engagement portfolio, the International Student Success Coordinator works to deliver excellence in supporting and championing international students and their success. The International Student Success Coordinator is responsible for participating in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of student success and retention programs for international students and coordinates the effective integration of programs across the student life-cycle from prospective student, to beginning alumni engagement for students within LA&PS. This includes new international student transition programs, peer-assisted learning programs, peer mentorship, community building and engagement initiatives, and programs focusing on student leadership and development, and providing direct student support through one on one and group student success coaching. The Coordinator collaborates closely with campus resource partners in international student success including York International, LA&PS Academic Advising Centre, LA&PS Colleges, LA&PS Student Academic Affairs, Achievement & Awards, Student Community & Leadership Development (SCLD), Student Counselling and Development, Learning Commons, Student Accessibility Services, the Career Centre and Athletics & Recreation to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to student engagement and success. In collaboration with the Manager, the Coordinator provides support towards coordinating the recruitment, selection, training, and oversight of all working and volunteering students who are assigned to the high priority international student success initiatives. Working closely with the Associate Dean, Global & Community Engagement and their Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the operational elements of program planning including, but not limited to the support of detailed annual development of operational plans, the analysis and reporting of evaluation data. The Coordinator ensures that the programming related to international student success and engagement is evidence based, theoretically informed and measurable. The Coordinator will support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and York University, and understands how their efforts contribute to the goals and objectives of the Schools/Departments, the Faculty and the University more broadly. The incumbent will also contribute to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement, that embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.
Education:
University degree inclusive of courses in a field related to student development theories, student engagement, leadership studies, adult learning and/or training, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below plus relevant specialized training or education. Demonstrated knowledge of international student services and retention strategies, internationalization methodology, and of international issues in education. Advanced education at the graduate level or certification in related areas of interest, would be an asset.
Experience:
2 years recent related work experience developing, implementing and facilitating student-centred programs designed to support student engagement, student leadership and student success in higher education preferably within an international student context. Advanced knowledge of student development theories specializing in student leadership, engagement and success in higher education. Experience in developing, implementing and coordinating events. Experience in evaluating student success programs. Proven experience drafting complex documents, reports and communications for a variety of audiences. Familiarity with National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and Beginning College (University) Survey of Student Experience (BSSE). Experience in coordinating the work of peer leaders or Work/Study students.

Excellent organizational, project management and time management skills to cope with multiple projects and events occurring within short and overlapping time periods.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in an environment of high volume and competing priorities.
Ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft 365 such as MS Word, Excel, Access at an intermediate level; including demonstrated knowledge of functions/formulae, creating queries and reports, filtering, sorting and linking (mail merge), intermediate MS PowerPoint or similar presentation software.
Familiarity with a university student information system (e.g. SIS) required.
Familiarity with event management software.
Ability to oversee social media sites (e.g. blogs, WordPress, Twitter, Facebook).
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse university student population and have a genuine desire to meet the needs of students.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal courteously, tactfully and effectively with students, faculty and staff.
Ability to exercise initiative, good judgment and flexibility in an environment of continuous change and process improvement.
Demonstrated commitment to working as a team player.
Strong ability to handle confidential and sensitive material and information.
Self-motivated learner and demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development.
Demonstrated record of professionalism, good attendance, punctuality and reliability.
