Head of Production

Far & Away is an award-winning film production studio founded in Halifax, Nova Scotia, by directing duo Ben Consmueller and Ilia Lipsman. We partner with agencies and brands to create unmistakably sincere commercial and branded films—work that's been recognized by Cannes Lions, Berlin Commercial Awards, Beyond the Short, and LBB's Best & Brightest Rising Talent in Canada.

As we grow, we're looking for a full-time Head of Production, based in Toronto, to help lead productions nationally and expand our presence in the Toronto market.

The Role:

You'll own the production process across our slate of commercial and branded projects—while also helping grow relationships and opportunities in Toronto. You'll be Far & Away's lead producer, overseeing bids, budgets, schedules, and logistics from pre-production through post, and acting as a trusted partner to our clients, and collaborators.

For the right person, this role has a clear growth path to Executive Producer (Toronto) within 1–2 years.

This is a full-time, remote role based in Toronto, reporting directly to the Co-Founders.

What You'll Do

Production Leadership

• Lead bidding processes, including script breakdowns, budgeting, and production strategy
• Oversee budgets, schedules, crews, and vendors across Canada
• Ensure productions run smoothly, on time, and on budget
• Hire and manage freelance producers as needed
• Maintain strong communication with clients and agencies throughout each project

Line Producing

• Lead productions from pre-production through post
• Act as the primary point of contact for production teams

New Business & Industry Presence (Toronto)

• Represent Far & Away at industry events and meetings
• Build and maintain relationships with agencies, brands, and collaborators
• Support business growth by identifying and nurturing new opportunities

Additional Responsibilities

• Contribute to shaping Far & Away's production processes and workflows as the team grows.
• Be a trusted partner in decision-making for both creative and business initiatives.

Who You Are

• 5+ years of production experience at a production company or agency
• Comfortable managing budgets in the $50K–$500K+ range
• Strong knowledge of the Canadian production landscape (tax incentives, unions, regional crews)
• A clear, calm communicator and confident problem-solver
• Self-motivated, collaborative, and ready to step into a senior leadership role
• Based in Toronto, with existing industry relationships
• Excited to help build and shape a growing production company

• Compensation: $65,000–$90,000, including performance-based incentives
• Growth Path: Executive Producer (Toronto) within 1–2 years, based on performance
