JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Marina Director, the position holder is responsible for the proper operation of the lock, the swing bridge, and the management of the passage of pleasure boats and other vessels.
The work schedule is forty (40) hours per week and includes both weekends and weekdays, with two days off during the week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect the facilities—lookout, lock, swing bridge—at the beginning of each shift.
- Regularly check the operation of control panels, motors, lock gates, emergency systems, and the swing bridge.
- Operate the lock and the swing bridge according to the provided instructions.
- Control the entry and exit of the basin.
- Guide boats entering the lock.
- Maintain a log of the number of lock operations and free passages.
- Ensure the safety of the swing bridge and pedestrian crossings on the lock.
- Use the VHF radio as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules and proper conduct.
- Inform the supervisor of any fact or situation that could compromise user safety.
- Perform any other related tasks.
DESIRED PROFILE
- Basic knowledge of maritime terminology.
- Completion of a VHF radio operator course.
- Intermediate proficiency in English.
- Demonstrated diplomacy and courtesy.
- Reliability and availability.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Ability to multitask (monitor boats in the lock, monitor pedestrians, cyclists, and shuttles on the swing bridge, operate the console, respond on VHF radio, etc.).
- Experience operating a lock (an asset).
