Who We Are?

Forward Insurance Managers Ltd. is hiring a junior programmer to join our team. In this role, you will be a part of development team to create a seamless digital experience while learning our business processes and understanding how our customers interact with Forward.

Forward Insurance Managers Ltd. is a Managing Underwriting Agency licensed across Canada and distributes property & casualty insurance products through brokerage partners. Our vision is to blend traditional insurance delivery with technology for a modern approach—People + Technology.

This is a 6 months contract position, available at our downtown Vancouver, BC location.

The Role

As the Junior Programmer, you'll work on core IT systems, focusing on integration, development and infrastructure management to support the company's growth and business needs. You will collaborate with senior personnel, including configuration analysts, to establish and enforce process, coding and configuration standards. You will also be a part of integration projects to ensure technical excellence and scalability .

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented Java code. Implement RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party services
  • Monitor enterprise platforms and external systems, ensuring best practices and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and fix bugs in existing codebases. Ensure timely deployment and maintenance activities of external systems.
  • Work with SQL/NoSQL databases. Write and maintain unit tests using JUnit
  • Familiarity with Git for source control. Exposure to cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Implement and maintain security measures, ensuring compliance and data protection.
  • Collaborate with senior developers, DevOps, and business teams. Promote and model Forward culture, values, and brand promise.
  • Continuously build professional and technical expertise.
  • Other duties as required.

Experience

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years development experience, with hands-on expertise in Java, Javascript etc.
  • Proficient in designing and building robust systems integrations across SaaS platforms and internal systems.
  • Experience in cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work across teams and with external vendors.
  • Knowledge of insurance systems or financial services is a bonus.
