Fabricator Position at Galaxie Signs

Galaxie Signs is a manufacturer of custom illuminated signage. We currently seek well motivated, qualified persons to fill positions in our sheet metal / aluminum fabrication department.

As a Fabricator, you will play a crucial role in crafting the bases for various types of signs, including directional and wayfinding signs, channel letters, posts, and panel signs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Crafting and assembling structural metal products, such as frameworks or shells for illuminated sign cabinets or pole signs, based on work orders, verbal instructions, and blueprints.
  • Planning the sequence of operations and developing layouts, utilizing mathematical knowledge, allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and the physical properties of metal.
  • Operating fabricating machines, performing welding, hammering, and grinding workpieces to cut and bend metal.
  • Preheating workpieces using a hand torch, accurately positioning, aligning, fitting, and welding parts together, and designing and constructing templates and fixtures.
  • Marking workpiece bending and cutting lines, considering stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
  • Handling materials and finished products, utilizing cranes, forklifts, or trolleys as necessary.

We are seeking candidates with the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience in light gauge aluminum and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Proficiency in understanding shop drawings and flexibility in adapting to various fabrication techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Commitment to quality, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently to meet production schedules.
  • Familiarity with reading blueprints; welding experience is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of both imperial and metric measurement systems.
  • While previous experience in the sign industry is preferred, it is not mandatory as we are willing to train the right candidate.

The primary duties will involve reading and interpreting shop drawings for fabrication with aluminum, steel, and sheet metal.
