Temporary Student Engagement Outreach Worker I - Tisdale
Applications are invited for a Temporary Student Engagement Outreach Worker I at Tisdale Middle & Secondary School. This unique role is designed to provide relationship-based support to secondary students who are at risk of disengagement. This role focuses on improving attendance, classroom participation, completion of coursework, and students' connection to learning and school. Duties will commence January 12, 2026 or a mutually agreed upon time and conclude June 30, 2026.

Key Responsibilities- Provide direct, relationship-based support to students identified as at risk to promote regular attendance, sustained classroom participation, and completion of assigned coursework
- Conduct regular check-ins with students to monitor wellbeing, engagement in learning, and progress with classroom assignments
- Support students in understanding and following daily school routines, schedules, and classroom expectations, with an emphasis on remaining in class and engaged in learning
- Encourage and support students to complete assigned work by helping them plan, organize, and re-engage with tasks, in collaboration with classroom teachers
- Support students in re-entering classes and resuming coursework following absences, suspensions, or periods of disengagement, focusing on rebuilding confidence and connection to learning
- Grade 12 diploma from a provincially recognized institution or equivalent.
- Two years of post-secondary training in a related area such as Early Childhood Development, or Youth Worker
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, traditions, and Treaty 6 Territory.
- Experience working with at-risk youth and families using trauma-informed approaches.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to form positive relationships with students, families, and community partners.
- Willingness to lead and participate in outdoor and land-based education activities.
- Preference given to those with Indigenous ancestry or lived experience that reflects the cultural foundation of the role.
- Experience working with Indigenous youth and families
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, restorative, and culturally responsive practices
- Experience supporting at-risk secondary students
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and within a school-based team
- Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Possess a current and valid driver's licence.
- Access to reliable transportation for family outreach and community engagement.
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate family and community events.
- Be willing to join CUPE Local 4875 Union.
