Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada Highbridge Human Capital Full time US$60,000 - US$98,000 per year

We're looking for an experienced CAD Technician with experience working across civil, geotechnical, and construction projects. The ideal candidate understands how drawings translate into real-world work and can move easily between design updates, field data, and construction requirements.

The CAD Technician / Civil Drafter is responsible for preparing detailed drawings, plans, and technical documents for construction projects. This role supports engineers and project teams by producing accurate 2D/3D drawings, updating revisions, and ensuring that all designs comply with project standards and engineering principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare IFR and IFC drawing packages for civil, earthworks, grading, servicing, and geotechnical structures.
  • Create clear and buildable construction details, sections, and plan/profile sheets.
  • Build accurate base files and surfaces from survey pickups, drone photogrammetry, borehole/test pit data, and site topography.
  • Support engineers and field staff with design iterations, redlines, construction-stage updates, and quick-turnaround drafting.
  • Produce drawings for temporary works, staging plans, site layouts, and field coordination.
  • Project needs vary—expect up to 60% office or 80% field at different times (drafting, layout, survey pickups, drone topo, etc.).

Drafting & Design

  • Prepare 2D and 3D drawings, layouts, and construction plans using AutoCAD or other CAD software.
  • Develop drawings for civil works such as roads, utilities, grading, drainage, foundations, and structural elements.
  • Update and revise drawings based on engineer or project manager feedback.

Technical Documentation

  • Maintain drawing registers, CAD files, and revision history.
  • Ensure that all drawings meet company drafting standards, codes, and project specifications.
  • Assist in preparing BOQs, as-built drawings, and shop drawings.

Coordination

  • Work closely with civil engineers, architects, and site teams to gather and interpret technical data.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and consultants to ensure drawing accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Participate in design review meetings and incorporate changes accordingly.

Site Support

  • Provide technical support to site teams by explaining plans, measurements, and design details.
  • Conduct site visits (if required) to verify dimensions, collect information, or support as-built preparation.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure drawings adhere to local construction standards, engineering principles, and safety regulations.
  • Perform self-checks and quality reviews to maintain accuracy and consistency.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience as a CAD Technician, Civil Drafter, or similar role in a construction or engineering company.
  • CET Certified Engineer Technologist would be preferable.
  • Experience with infrastructure, building, or structural projects is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential).
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, or other design software is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and survey data.
  • Familiarity with drafting standards, layers, scales, and dimensioning.
  • Strong background in civil drafting, including surfaces, alignments, corridors, and utilities.
  • Experience drafting geotechnical features: slopes, shoring, GRS/retaining systems, earthworks, foundations.
  • Field survey experience—GPS rover, total station, layout, as-builts.
  • Comfort working with drone photogrammetry (Pix4D, DJI Terra, or similar) and processing digital surfaces.
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, field notes, and construction requirements.
  • Practical mindset and an understanding of how civil and geotechnical designs get built on site.

Software & Data Experience

  • AutoCAD / Civil 3D
  • Photogrammetry tools (e.g., Pix4D, DJI Terra)
  • Handling survey file formats (LAS, CSV, XYZ, TXT, etc.)

The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently, collaborate with engineers and field staff, and take ownership of drawing packages from early design through construction

Benefits

  • Opportunity to help lead a growing business.
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Excellent compensation and benefits package.
  • Salary range $60,000 to $98,000, dependent on experience.
  • Diverse range of projects.
