Position Summary
The Production Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring production schedules to ensure customer delivery commitments are met while optimizing inventory levels and material flow. This role works cross-functionally with Production, Purchasing, Sales, Logistics, and Suppliers to support efficient manufacturing operations in a fast-paced automotive environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and adjust daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer demand, capacity, and material availability.
- Create and communicate supplier forecasts in accordance with established lead times.
- Collaborate with Production, Purchasing, Sales, and Logistics to align priorities for customer orders, expedited requests, and service orders.
- Proactively identify and resolve scheduling conflicts related to material shortages, supplier delays, or changes in customer demand.
- Analyze production plans to determine raw material and component requirements.
- Create, release, and track purchase orders, ensuring timely material availability.
- Monitor supplier lead times and on-time delivery performance, coordinating inbound shipments to meet production requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels, balancing production needs while minimizing excess or obsolete stock.
- Coordinate shipping documentation and logistics for non-OEM customer shipments, ensuring on-time pickup and delivery.
- Communicate material shortages, risks, or delays clearly and promptly to internal stakeholders.
- Perform cycle counts on raw materials (blanks and coils) on a regular basis and finished goods as required.
- Verify received materials to ensure accuracy against purchase orders and shipping documentation.
- Maintain and update ERP system data, including routings and Bills of Material (BOMs), for new and existing parts.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of production planning, materials planning, or scheduling experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems (PLEX experience is an asset).
- Working knowledge of production scheduling, inventory control, and supplier coordination.
- Ability to interpret BOMs, routings, and production data.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard business software.
- Experience managing high-volume, just-in-time (JIT) production schedules.
