Position Summary

The Employment Counselor is the first point of contact for all NEW job seekers. Their job is to welcome people and convey a friendly, professional, knowledgeable and efficient atmosphere. As the 'anchor' to the case management process, the Employment Counselor will access client needs and support their job search. Newcomer Women's Services Toronto is seeking a responsive employment counselor who is client-focused and knowledgeable of the Employment Ontario model and job search barriers, to support the BuildHERFuture team. The BuildHERFuture project is an initiative dedicated to advancing women's participation and success in the construction industry through credentialing, mentorship, skills development and hands-on experience. You are collaborative, take initiative, work within the policies, and take accountability and responsibility in reaching specific targets. You are a lifelong learner, who is passionate about connecting marginalized community members to employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct eligibility assessments and develop individualized action plans for job seekers.
  • Deliver end-to-end employment services, including job readiness workshops, one-on-one coaching, and referrals to community resources and training programs.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 200 clients using CRM software and Case management systems, maintaining accurate records of client progress, referrals, and outcomes.
  • Provide comprehensive case management, including intake, assessment, and the development of personalized employment plans.
  • Support clients in identifying their strengths, addressing employment barriers, and building action plans for job readiness and retention.
  • Conduct follow-ups to ensure client progress and provide additional support as needed.
  • Provide advocacy and support for clients in areas of employment, skills training, social assistance, and equitable access to services.
  • Facilitate workshops to prepare clients for job search, interviews, and successful workplace integration, with a holistic focus.
  • Meet monthly/yearly performance requirements and maintain professional and effective information tracking systems on all activities performed
  • Conduct needs assessments and career testing in individual and/or group settings.
  • Meet individual, organizational and Employment Ontario program goals/targets, service utilization targets, and monthly statistical requirements.
  • Maintain professional and effective updated information tracking systems on all activities performed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with private and public sector employers to connect clients with sustainable job opportunities.
  • Maintain strong internal and external partner relationships to facilitate referrals and holistic support.
  • Host community and employer events, job fairs, and networking opportunities.
  • Proactively identify and research sector-specific opportunities for clients.
  • Contribute to maintaining the NEW job board and ensuring job postings are current.
  • Attend Job Fairs and other employer-related networking opportunities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent in Career and Work Counselling/Adult Education or a relevant field and/or 5 years directly related work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of Case management experience required
  • Experience coaching and mentoring clients, working with individuals with complex barriers and inclusion groups, and building partnerships with employers, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience, knowledge or connection to the construction industry or employers is highly valuable.
  • Knowledge of the local construction industry labour market, community resources and government assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of job search techniques, career development tools and issues relating to unemployment
  • Strong detail literacy, including social media, CRM and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adherence to confidentiality and professional codes of conduct
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation is considered an asset
  • Experience with provincial government and other online tools such as ICM, CaMS and online employment services
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • This position requires travel throughout Ontario, thus a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are essential.
