Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking Senior Mechanical Engineers to join our Energy & Resources group with specific focus on Thermal Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) projects.
Experience in thermal in-situ SAGD facilities, heavy oil processing, and/or mineable oil sands is required.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, your role is to lead mechanical engineering execution on average to large sized projects, and/or work as a member of a broader mechanical engineering team.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities
You will participate and/or lead the mechanical engineering execution and deliverables on mid size to large projects. Responsible for overall compliance with engineering codes and standards and technical completion of mechanical system design, including but not limited to the following:
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer mechanical systems or products for a project.
- Lead and/or participate in material and equipment selection processes.
- Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications and other related documents.
- Perform and oversee the performance of calculations using software or other approved methods.
- Develop, review, and approve mechanical drawings (PFD's, P&ID's, Plot Plans, Isometrics, and General Arrangement drawings).
- Prepare, review and approve procurement support documents. Participate or lead in equipment and/or component material procurement including datasheets, scope of works, technical bid evaluations and material requisition documents.
- Develop and/or review/approve mechanical lists including but not limited to, equipment lists, line designation tables, specialty items lists, valve lists, and tie-in lists.
- Authenticate engineering drawings and documents as required.
- Oversee and manage the quality of project deliverables using Stantec's quality control guidelines.
- Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Define and manage mechanical scope requirements including project budgets, manhour trends, schedules, project level staffing/resourcing and support project design document development (PEP/DBM/etc).
- Participate in client, vendor, and contractor meetings including HAZOP, 3D model reviews, design reviews, and/or constructability reviews.
- Establish and maintain positive client relationships.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub- contractors, and vendors.
- Holds high HSSE requirements and promote a culture of HSSE excellence.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Extensive experience in engineering design for SAGD facilities, heavy oil processing, and/or mineable oil sands within an EPC environment.
- Strong technical expertise in Thermal in-situ SAGD facilities, Heavy oil processing, and/or mineable oil sands principles, technologies, and equipment.
- Proven ability to manage mechanical engineering execution on complex projects from concept to completion, ensuring safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage mechanical engineering team and collaborate with clients and stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of design guidelines (API standards, AER directives, NACE, ASME, etc.), industry standards, and best practices.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Understanding of various equipment such as steam generators, vessels, tanks, heat exchangers & coolers, fired heaters, rotating equipment (pumps and compressors), and packaged equipment.
- Metallurgical experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness.
- Mentoring skills and desire to work with and encourage junior staff.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- 15-20 years of industry experience; with minimum 10 years' experience working directly in large-scale Thermal / Oil Sands projects
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and regulatory requirements for facility projects, with an EPC background
- Licensed Professional Engineer with APEGA; registration in other jurisdictions, specifically EGBC and/or APEGS, is a strong asset.
Typical office environment includes working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Pay Transparency:
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
