Job Purpose

Support Staff provide basic needs and support to tenants who are residing at 416 Stafford Drive North. The Support Staff assist tenants to live successfully in a residential setting. Support Staff will also help to identify tenant needs and risks and provides skill building in identified areas. Implements activities related to the Individuals Support Plan (ISP) created for each tenant residing within the building.

The Support Staff position is required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week – evenings, overnights, and weekends are required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides individualized, person-centered support to tenants a caseload of approximately 15 tenants, including:

· Support clients: complete tasks related to the completion of their Individualized Service Plans (ISP); coordinate transportation to appointments, day program, or other outings; carry out activities related to meaningful daily activities; support at mealtimes as required, etc.

· Preparing, documenting, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating ISPs with each tenant.

· Assist with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties.

· Providing input to the Recovery Coach and other professionals with regard to the tenant's current situation or status.

· Monitoring tenant mental health and addictions issues and determining when to provide additional support.

· Recognizing, analyzing, and responding to potential emergency situations.

· Encouraging and facilitating tenant participation in decision-making regarding housing and support policies and practices.

· Providing life skills training such as housekeeping, personal care and personal self-management skills.

· Document interactions with tenants.

Administrative Support:

· Keeps track of location of tenants by utilizing a Microsoft Teams/Excel Spreadsheet.

· Locates tenants when in-reach staff arrive at the building.

· Keeps track of schedule for Access-a-Ride and other transit options.

Program Support:

· Work within a multi-disciplinary team liaising with others to promote a supportive environment.

· Ensure flow of critical information including documentation and shift change to bring forward issues and occurrences that take place while on shift.

· Support strategies that encourage the involvement of all in providing and delivering services within the supportive housing program.

· Promote a mutually supportive environment that emphasizes collaborative approaches.

Other Duties:

· Perform day-to-day administrative duties including maintaining data entry, new participant intake, maintenance and/or hazard assessment reports, and assisting other staff with completing paperwork.

· Effectively de-escalate, diffuse, and monitor overall environment for safety.

· Assist in meal service for those tenants who may require support.

· Housekeeping duties including laundry, silverware prep, or tenant preparation for room cleaning where required.

· Work with a multi-disciplinary team liaising with the on-site Case Manager and Recovery Coach, as well as in-reach staff as required.

· Effective time management including ability to prioritize and assist with meaningful daily activities.

· Complete incident reports in a timely manner as per Incident Reporting guidelines.

Community Collaboration:

· Develop and promote collaborative partnerships with other service providers, agencies, and community partners.

· Attend and participate in team/staff meetings, committees, and networking events as required.

Skills & Qualifications

A minimum of 1 year experience in social services, or housing-related fields. Experience working with homeless populations, individuals with disabilities, or other vulnerable populations is strongly preferred.

Competent in Microsoft Office programs. Training provided, however preference given to applicants with experience in HIFIS.

Access to Information Act Training.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and community partners.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.

Shift work is required.

Training: First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Verbal De-escalation, and Suicide Intervention. Equivalencies considered.

Working Conditions

Working directly with individuals with a demonstrated history of homelessness, especially those who are exiting encampments and are working towards recovery.

Works in an office setting and in the community.

Works directly with individuals experiencing crisis including emotional, mental illness, and/or addictions recovery.

Flexible to meet clients outside of office.

Must pass a Criminal Background check and Vulnerable Sector check.

Physical Requirements

Sitting and typing on a computer for long periods time.

Standing and lifting for various presentations and activities.

Driving to meetings when required.
